Students admitted to the Ph.D. program must complete a total of 120 ECTS credits through compulsory and elective courses. After passing the qualifying exam, they must prepare an acceptable doctoral dissertation, reaching a total of 240 ECTS credits, and maintain a minimum academic GPA of 3.0 out of 4. Students who fail to meet this requirement within the given timeframe will be dismissed from the program.
According to regulations, a doctoral student who successfully completes coursework must take the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam within the following six months. Those who fail the exam are given a second chance. The qualifying exam assesses the student's theoretical knowledge, methodological competence, and expertise in their dissertation topic.
Students who pass the exam are given two years to complete their dissertation. The Thesis Monitoring Committee, which includes the student’s advisor, evaluates the progress twice a year. If a student's research is deemed satisfactory but they are unable to complete the dissertation, they may be granted an additional two-year extension.
The student must defend their dissertation before a jury, which makes a decision based on the majority vote.
